FOR MILWAUKEE COUNTY YOUTH

Student Government Day

Each year the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors and the American Legion host Student Government Day.  The purpose of this program is to increase student interest in government and citizenship, one of the principle goals of the County Board and the American Legion.

Nineteen area high school students participate in a daylong event where they are paired with the nineteen members of the County Board.  The students will sit with a County Supervisor during the March monthly meeting, enjoy lunch with them and get a behind the scenes tour of County Government.

For additional information on Student Government Day, call Harold Mester at 278-4051.

Milwaukee County Senior Statesman Program

Every summer, Milwaukee County hosts a Senior Statesman Program at the Courthouse.  The event provides a unique opportunity for seniors to witness County government in action, meet with members of the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, witness a County Board meeting and learn more about the legislative process in Milwaukee County.

The participants tour Milwaukee County facilities, meet department heads and learn how to advocate on behalf of Senior Citizens in Milwaukee County.  The event is a partnership between Marquette University, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, Milwaukee County Executive's Office and the Milwaukee County Department of Agining.

The even culminates with a graduation Ceremony featuring the County Executive and Supervisors, along with a reunion of previous Senior Statesman participants at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.  Each Senior Statesman is presented with a Certificate of Participation.
